Historical Terminal ยท 1993 ยท Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC)
The DEC VT510, released in 1993, was one of DEC's later VT-series terminals (the VT520 and VT525 followed before DEC's acquisition by Compaq in 1998). While no modern terminal implements the full VT510 specification, specific features like DECTCEM (cursor visibility control) and DECSCNM (reverse video mode) became universal.
The VT510 Reference Manual remains the most cited document for terminal implementors โ it's the closest thing to a comprehensive reference for DEC escape sequences. When terminal developers need to understand a DEC private mode, they reach for the VT510 manual.
